BECOME A US CITIZENSHIP IN 10-12 SAYS TRUMP

US President Donald Trump said Wednesday he was prepared to back a deal that would provide a pathway to citizenship to America’s so-called “Dreamer” immigrants over a period of 10 to 12 years. The latest approach by the White House suggests a key development in negotiations over some 700,000 immigrants who were brought to the country illegally as children, and face deportation as early as March. “We are going to morph into it,” Trump told reporters about the citizenship provision. “It’s going to happen, at some point in the future, over a period of 10 to 12 years.” US lawmakers have struggled for months to negotiate a compromise over the status of the Dreamers. An impasse over the issue, a source of bitter partisan tension in Washington, recently shut down the government for three days. In reaching a deal to resume federal operations, the Senate’s Republican leader Mitch McConnell said Congress would aim to negotiate an immigration agreement by February 8, and if a deal is not struck by then, the issue would be taken up in debate on the Senate floor. Although Trump did not provide details on the pathway to citizenship, his comments are perhaps the most telling sign that a broader deal might be within reach. They came just hours after the White House announced it will release a “legislative framework” for immigration reform on Monday that is acceptable to both Democrats and Republicans. “After decades of inaction by Congress, it’s time we work together to solve this issue once and for all,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told journalists. “The White House will release a legislative framework on Monday that represents a compromise that members of both parties can support,” which is based on “dozens” of meetings with Republican and Democratic leadership and legislators, she said. The plan would fulfill “four agreed-upon pillars” of immigration reform, she added: border security, curbing extended family reunification known as “chain migration,” cancelling the green-card visa lottery, and providing a permanent solution on DACA. – ‘Strong statement’ – The first three pillars are largely Republican priorities, while the last — fixing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — is a cause championed by the Democrats. DACA, which was instituted by Trump’s predecessor Barack Obama in 2012, protects from deportation hundreds of thousands of immigrants who arrived in the country illegally as children. Trump said in September he was scrapping DACA, throwing the future of those it covers into doubt, but delayed enforcement to give Congress until March to craft a lasting solution. Democrats unsuccessfully sought to tie a solution to the DACA issue to a stop-gap measure to fund the federal government, but Republicans rejected the effort, leading to a shutdown from Saturday to Monday. Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican pointman on the immigration negotiations, hailed Trump’s comments as a major breakthrough. “With this strong statement by President Trump, I have never felt better about our chances of finding a solution on immigration,” Graham said in a statement. Trump’s “support for a pathway to citizenship will help us get strong border security measures as we work to modernize a broken immigration system.” Trump’s remarks signified key movement in a debate that appeared to stall Tuesday after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer withdrew an offer to fund a wall that Trump wants constructed on the US border with Mexico. Schumer had reportedly offered as much as $25 billion for the wall, which was among the most prominent planks of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, as part of an immigration deal. When Trump rejected that deal, Schumer pulled the offer. “Cryin’ Chuck Schumer fully understands, especially after his humiliating defeat, that if there is no Wall, there is no DACA,” Trump tweeted late Tuesday. “We must have safety and security, together with a strong Military, for our great people!”

OBASANJO MOCK BUHARI IN LATEST LETTER: Don't Go For 2019 Election

It is callous and insensitive for governors to endorse the President for second term A former President, Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday, in a statement has called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re-election itin 2019. In the letter, Obasanjo states that President Buhari has performed far below expectations and his election was due to the fact that Nigerians wanted former President Goodluck Jonathan out. Obasanjo also said he felt disappointed that Buhari, whom he supported against Jonathan in 2015. Read the letter below: THE WAY OUT: A CLARION CALL FOR COALITION FOR NIGERIA MOVEMENT Since we are still in the month of January, it is appropriate to wish all Nigerians Happy 2018. I am constrained to issue this special statement at this time considering the situation of the country. Some of you may be asking, “What has brought about this special occasion of Obasanjo issuing a Special Statement?” You will be right to ask such a question. But there is a Yoruba saying that ‘when lice abound in your clothes, your fingernails will never be dried of blood’. When I was in the village, to make sure that lice die, you put them between two fingernails and press hard to ensure they die and they always leave blood stains on the fingernails. To ensure you do not have blood on your fingernails, you have to ensure that lice are not harboured anywhere within your vicinity. The lice of poor performance in government – poverty, insecurity, poor economic management, nepotism, gross dereliction of duty, condonation of misdeed – if not outright encouragement of it, lack of progress and hope for the future, lack of national cohesion and poor management of internal political dynamics and widening inequality – are very much with us today. With such lice of general and specific poor performance and crying poverty with us, our fingers will not be dry of ‘blood’. Four years ago when my PDP card was torn, I made it abundantly clear that I quit partisan politics for aye but my concern and interest in Nigeria, Africa and indeed in humanity would not wane. Ever since, I have adhered strictly to that position. Since that time, I have devoted quality time to the issue of zero hunger as contained in Goal No. 2 of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN. We have set the target that Nigeria with the participating States in the Zero Hunger Forum should reach Zero Hunger goal by 2025 – five years earlier than the UN target date. I am involved in the issue of education in some States and generally in the issue of youth empowerment and employment. I am involved in all these domestically and altruistically to give hope and future to the seemingly hopeless and those in despair. I believe strongly that God has endowed Nigeria so adequately that no Nigerian should be either in want or in despair. I believe in team work and collaborative efforts. At the international level, we have worked with other world leaders to domicile the apparatus for monitoring and encouraging socio-economic progress in Africa in our Presidential Library. The purpose of Africa Progress Group, which is the new name assumed by Africa Progress Panel (APP), is to point out where, when and what works need to be done for the progress of Africa separately and collectively by African leaders and their development partners. I have also gladly accepted the invitation of the UN Secretary-General to be a member of his eighteen-member High-Level Board of Advisers on Mediation. There are other assignments I take up in other fora for Africa and for the international community. For Africa to move forward, Nigeria must be one of the anchor countries, if not the leading anchor country. It means that Nigeria must be good at home to be good outside. No doubt, our situation in the last decade or so had shown that we are not good enough at home; hence we are invariably absent at the table that we should be abroad. All these led me to take the unusual step of going against my own political Party, PDP, in the last general election to support the opposite side. I saw that action as the best option for Nigeria. As it has been revealed in the last three years or so, that decision and the subsequent collective decision of Nigerians to vote for a change was the right decision for the nation. For me, there was nothing personal, it was all in the best interest of Nigeria and, indeed, in the best interest of Africa and humanity at large. Even the horse rider then, with whom I maintain very cordial, happy and social relationship today has come to realise his mistakes and regretted it publicly and I admire his courage and forthrightness in this regard. He has a role to play on the side line for the good of Nigeria, Africa and humanity and I will see him as a partner in playing such a role nationally and internationally, but not as a horse rider in Nigeria again. The situation that made Nigerians to vote massively to get my brother Jonathan off the horse is playing itself out again. First, I thought I knew the point where President Buhari is weak and I spoke and wrote about it even before Nigerians voted for him and I also did vote for him because at that time it was a matter of “any option but Jonathan” (aobj). But my letter to President Jonathan titled: “Before It Is Too Late” was meant for him to act before it was too late. He ignored it and it was too late for him and those who goaded him into ignoring the voice of caution. I know that praise-singers and hired attackers may be raised up against me for verbal or even physical attack but if I can withstand undeserved imprisonment and was ready to shed my blood by standing for Nigeria, I will consider no sacrifice too great to make for the good of Nigeria at any time. No human leader is expected to be personally strong or self-sufficient in all aspects of governance. I knew President Buhari before he became President and said that he is weak in the knowledge and understanding of the economy but I thought that he could make use of good Nigerians in that area that could help. Although, I know that you cannot give what you don’t have and that economy does not obey military order. You have to give it what it takes in the short-, medium- and long-term. Then, it would move. I know his weakness in understanding and playing in the foreign affairs sector and again, there are many Nigerians that could be used in that area as well. They have knowledge and experience that could be deployed for the good of Nigeria. There were serious allegations of round-tripping against some inner caucus of the Presidency which would seem to have been condoned. I wonder if such actions do not amount to corruption and financial crime, then what is it? Culture of condonation and turning blind eye will cover up rather than clean up. And going to justice must be with clean hands. I thought President Buhari would fight corruption and insurgency and he must be given some credit for his achievement so far in these two areas although it is not yet uhuru! The herdsmen/crop farmers issue is being wittingly or unwittingly allowed to turn sour and messy. It is no credit to the Federal Government that the herdsmen rampage continues with careless abandon and without finding an effective solution to it. And it is a sad symptom of insensitivity and callousness that some Governors, a day after 73 victims were being buried in a mass grave in Benue State without condolence, were jubilantly endorsing President Buhari for a second term! The timing was most unfortunate. The issue of herdsmen/crop farmers dichotomy should not be left on the political platform of blame game; the Federal Government must take the lead in bringing about solution that protects life and properties of herdsmen and crop farmers alike and for them to live amicably in the same community. But there are three other areas where President Buhari has come out more glaringly than most of us thought we knew about him. One is nepotic deployment bordering on clannishness and inability to bring discipline to bear on errant members of his nepotic court. This has grave consequences on performance of his government to the detriment of the nation. It would appear that national interest was being sacrificed on the altar of nepotic interest. What does one make of a case like that of Maina: collusion, condonation, ineptitude, incompetence, dereliction of responsibility or kinship and friendship on the part of those who should have taken visible and deterrent disciplinary action? How many similar cases are buried, ignored or covered up and not yet in the glare of the media and the public? The second is his poor understanding of the dynamics of internal politics. This has led to wittingly or unwittingly making the nation more divided and inequality has widened and become more pronounced. It also has effect on general national security. The third is passing the buck. For instance, blaming the Governor of the Central Bank for devaluation of the naira by 70% or so and blaming past governments for it, is to say the least, not accepting one’s own responsibility. Let nobody deceive us, economy feeds on politics and because our politics is depressing, our economy is even more depressing today. If things were good, President Buhari would not need to come in. He was voted to fix things that were bad and not engage in the blame game. Our Constitution is very clear, one of the cardinal responsibilities of the President is the management of the economy of which the value of the naira forms an integral part. Kinship and friendship that place responsibility for governance in the hands of the unelected can only be deleterious to good government and to the nation. President Buhari’s illness called for the sympathy, understanding, prayer and patience from every sane Nigerian. It is part of our culture. Most Nigerians prayed for him while he was away sick in London for over hundred days and he gave his Deputy sufficient leeway to carry on in his absence. We all thanked God for President Buhari for coming back reasonably hale and hearty and progressing well in his recovery. But whatever may be the state of President Buhari’s health today, he should neither over-push his luck nor over-tax the patience and tolerance of Nigerians for him, no matter what his self-serving, so-called advisers, who would claim that they love him more than God loves him and that without him, there would be no Nigeria say. President Buhari needs a dignified and honourable dismount from the horse. He needs to have time to reflect, refurbish physically and recoup and after appropriate rest, once again, join the stock of Nigerian leaders whose experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed on the side line for the good of the country. His place in history is already assured. Without impaired health and strain of age, running the affairs of Nigeria is a 25/7 affair, not 24/7. I only appeal to brother Buhari to consider a deserved rest at this point in time and at this age. I continue to wish him robust health to enjoy his retirement from active public service. President Buhari does not necessarily need to heed my advice. But whether or not he heeds it, Nigeria needs to move on and move forward. I have had occasion in the past to say that the two main political parties – APC and PDP – were wobbling. I must reiterate that nothing has happened to convince me otherwise. If anything, I am reinforced in my conviction. The recent show of PDP must give grave and great concern to lovers of Nigeria. To claim, as has been credited to the chief kingmaker of PDP, that for procuring the Supreme Court judgement for his faction of the Party, he must dictate the tune all the way and this is indeed fraught with danger. If neither APC nor PDP is a worthy horse to ride to lead Nigeria at this crucial and critical time, what then do we do? Remember Farooq Kperogi, an Associate Professor at the Kennesaw State University, Georgia, United States, calls it “a cruel Hobson’s choice; it’s like a choice between six and half a dozen, between evil and evil. Any selection or deflection would be a distinction without a difference.” We cannot just sit down lamenting and wringing our hands desperately and hopelessly. I believe the situation we are in today is akin to what and where we were in at the beginning of this democratic dispensation in 1999. The nation was tottering. People became hopeless and saw no bright future in the horizon. It was all a dark cloud politically, economically and socially. The price of oil at that time was nine dollars per barrel and we had a debt overhang of about $35 billion. Most people were confused with lack of direction in the country. One of the factors that saved the situation was a near government of national unity that was put in place to navigate us through the dark cloud. We had almost all hands on deck. We used people at home and from the diaspora and we navigated through the dark cloud of those days. At that time, most people were hopelessly groping in the dark. They saw no choice, neither in the left nor in the right, and yet we were not bereft of people at home and from the diaspora that could come together to make Nigeria truly a land flowing with milk and honey. Where we are is a matter of choice but we can choose differently to make a necessary and desirable change, once again. Wherever I go, I hear Nigerians complaining, murmuring in anguish and anger. But our anger should not be like the anger of the cripple. We can collectively save ourselves from the position we find ourselves. It will not come through self-pity, fruitless complaint or protest but through constructive and positive engagement and collective action for the good of our nation and ourselves and our children and their children. We need moral re-armament and engaging togetherness of people of like-mind and goodwill to come solidly together to lift Nigeria up. This is no time for trading blames or embarking on futile argument and neither should we accept untenable excuses for non-performance. Let us accept that the present administration has done what it can do to the limit of its ability, aptitude and understanding. Let the administration and its political party platform agree with the rest of us that what they have done and what they are capable of doing is not good enough for us. They have given as best as they have and as best as they can give. Nigeria deserves and urgently needs better than what they have given or what we know they are capable of giving. To ask them to give more will be unrealistic and will only sentence Nigeria to a prison term of four years if not destroy it beyond the possibility of an early recovery and substantial growth. Einstein made it clear to us that doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the height of folly. Already, Nigerians are committing suicide for the unbearable socio-economic situation they find themselves in. And yet Nigerians love life. We must not continue to reinforce failure and hope that all will be well. It is self-deceit and self-defeat and another aspect of folly. What has emerged from the opposition has shown no better promise from their antecedents. As the leader of that Party for eight years as President of Nigeria, I can categorically say there is nothing to write home about in their new team. We have only one choice left to take us out of Egypt to the promised land. And that is the coalition of the concerned and the willing – ready for positive and drastic change, progress and involvement. Change that will give hope and future to all our youth and dignity and full participation to all our women. Our youth should be empowered to deploy their ability to learn, innovate and work energetically at ideas and concepts in which they can make their own original inputs. Youth must be part of the action today and not relegated to leadership of tomorrow which may never come. Change that will mean enhancement of living standard and progress for all. A situation where the elected will accountably govern and every Nigerian will have equal opportunity not based on kinship and friendship but based on free citizenship. Democracy is sustained and measured not by leaders doing extra-ordinary things, (invariably, leaders fail to do ordinary things very well), but by citizens rising up to do ordinary things extra-ordinarily well. Our democracy, development and progress at this juncture require ordinary citizens of Nigeria to do the extra-ordinary things of changing the course and direction of our lackluster performance and development. If leadership fails, citizens must not fail and there lies the beauty and importance of democracy. We are challenged by the current situation; we must neither adopt spirit of cowardice nor timidity let alone impotence but must be sustained by courage, determination and commitment to say and do and to persist until we achieve upliftment for Nigeria. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and we believe that our venturing will not be in vain. God of Nigeria has endowed this country adequately and our non-performance cannot be blamed on God but on leadership. God, who has given us what we need and which is potentially there, will give us leadership enablement to actualize our potentiality. The development and modernization of our country and society must be anchored and sustained on dynamic Nigerian culture, enduring values and an enchanting Nigerian dream. We must have abiding faith in our country and its role and place within the comity of nations. Today, Nigeria needs all hands on deck. All hands of men and women of goodwill must be on deck. We need all hands to move our country forward. We need a Coalition for Nigeria, CN. Such a Movement at this juncture needs not be a political party but one to which all well-meaning Nigerians can belong. That Movement must be a coalition for democracy, good governance, social and economic well-being and progress. Coalition to salvage and redeem our country. You can count me with such a Movement. Last time, we asked, prayed and worked for change and God granted our request. This time, we must ask, pray and work for change with unity, security and progress. And God will again grant us. Of course, nothing should stop such a Movement from satisfying conditions for fielding candidates for elections. But if at any stage the Movement wishes to metamorphose into candidate-sponsoring Movement for elections, I will bow out of the Movement because I will continue to maintain my non-partisan position. Coalition for Nigeria must have its headquarters in Abuja. This Coalition for Nigeria will be a Movement that will drive Nigeria up and forward. It must have a pride of place for all Nigerians, particularly for our youth and our women. It is a coalition of hope for all Nigerians for speedy, quality and equal development, security, unity, prosperity and progress. It is a coalition to banish poverty, insecurity and despair. Our country must not be oblivious to concomitant danger around, outside and ahead. Coalition for Nigeria must be a Movement to break new ground in building a united country, a socially-cohesive and moderately prosperous society with equity, equality of opportunity, justice and a dynamic and progressive economy that is self-reliant and takes active part in global division of labour and international decision-making. The Movement must work out the path of development and the trajectory of development in speed, quality and equality in the short- medium- and long-term for Nigeria on the basis of sustainability, stability, predictability, credibility, security, cooperation and prosperity with diminishing inequality. What is called for is love, commitment and interest in our country, not in self, friends and kinship alone but particularly love, compassion and interest in the poor, underprivileged and downtrodden. It is our human duty and responsibility so to do. Failure to do this will amount to a sin against God and a crime against humanity. Some may ask, what does Obasanjo want again? Obasanjo has wanted nothing other than the best for Nigeria and Nigerians and he will continue to want nothing less. And if we have the best, we will be contented whether where we live is described as palaces or huts by others and we will always give thanks to God. I, therefore, will gladly join such a Movement when one is established as Coalition for Nigeria, CN, taking Nigeria to the height God has created it to be. From now on, the Nigeria eagle must continue to soar and fly high. CN, as a Movement, will be new, green, transparent and must remain clean and always active, selflessly so. Members must be ready to make sacrifice for the nation and pay the price of being pioneers and good Nigerians for our country to play the God-assigned role for itself, for its neighbours, for its sub-region of West Africa, for its continent and for humanity in general. For me, the strength and sustainable success of CN will derive largely from the strong commitment of a population that is constantly mobilized to the rallying platform of the fact that going forward together is our best option for building a nation that will occupy its deserved place in the global community. May God continue to lead, guide and protect us. Amen.

Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan Swap Deal Almost A Done Deal

I The Chilean is heading to Manchester to complete his medical checks, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan is in London to finalise his move to the Gunners. Alexis Sanchez has boarded a private jet bound for Manchester as he travels to undergo a medical and finalise his January transfer to United. The Arsenal star was flanked by his best friend, and his agent Fernando Felicevich was also present, with United having made the arrangements to charter the aircraft. Alexis will earn around £14 million a year with United, making him one of the best-paid players in Premier League history, with agent fees expected to reach the £10m mark. The transfer taking the Chilean to Old Trafford will see Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading in the opposite direction and Goal understands the deal will be a straight swap, with no cash incentives involved. Indeed, the former Dortmund winger was spotted in London with his agent Mino Raiola on Saturday, and Goal understands the 29-year-old will also undergo his medical tests with the Gunners on Sunday. Confirmation of the transfer is likely to arrive from both clubs on Monday as one of the most intriguing January deals in Premier League history draws to a conclusion. Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, remained cautious when asked about the possible signing of Alexis in his post-match press conference following the 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday. The Portuguese told supporters to expect a transfer either "soon or never", adding: "I think it's so close, so close. So close that if it doesn't happen, it's not going to happen. So I am positive. "I know that my people are doing absolutely everything they can - the owners with the green light and Mr [Ed] Woodward working hard. "I think everybody is giving everything they can and I think we're going to be successful." Alexis posted a video on his Instagram account to show that he was boarding the private jet bound for Manchester, with, ironically, 'No Easy Way Out' from the Rocky IV film playing over the top of the short clip. And there was further social media activity, with the 29-year-old forward retweeting an article that disagreed with assertions that the Chilean is a footballing mercenary for leaving Emirates Stadium for Mourinho's United.
As well as signing Mkhitaryan, Arsenal are also hoping to complete a deal for Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the January window. The German club's CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed on Saturday that there had been an approach for the Gabon international, with the Gunners having agreed personal terms with the 28-year-old. Wenger will not, however, be bringing in Bordeaux winger Malcom in the winter window, with the north Londoners having pulled out of the race to sign the Brazilian, at least until the summer.

Please note that this is not a cheat, It's actually legit .You get 2GB for N100 when you port your Airtel SIM to other networks especially MTN and the data lasts for 30 days. The most interesting part of this trick is you can even accumulate the data. In other words, the more you recharge N100, the more you get 2GB added to your line. With this you can get 4GB for N200, 10GB for just N500, 20GB for N1000 and so on. So pickup that sim you haven't been using and port to Airtel. There's a catch to it though, The Airtel SIM porting process is free of charge but you have to adhere to the official guidelines from Airtel in order to make it a success. You must also load your recharge cards via e-channels (I recommend using your bank app or quickteller for this) else you won't get the 2GB data bonus. Just follow the procedures below. REQUIREMENTS ✔ Valid ID card (Voters card, drivers license, etc) ✔️ Registered Sim You want to port (MTN works better) HOW TO PORT FROM OTHER NETWORK TO AIRTEL NETWORK ✔️ Locate the nearest Airtel office around you with the above requirements. ✔️ Tell them you want to Port your existing sim (any network) to Airtel ✔️ They will present you with a form to fill (Follow Customer Care Procedures) ✔️ After that, you will receive an SMS from Airtel on the old/existing operator SIM telling you (You wish to port your line) ✔️ At this stage, you may not see service in your phone for about 2 hours. It's a ‘no service period’ which will begin after the porting time. ✔️ Now reboot your phone as soon as the old operator Network signal has disappeared. ✔️ After the ‘no service period’, you can replace your existing operator’s SIM card with the new airtel SIM card in your handset. At this juncture, Airtel will send you a confirmation message that your sim has been ported. The above procedure is the main important part of this tutorial and if you have completed it, you are 90% done. Follow the final stages to complete the process and start enjoying. HOW TO GET AIRTEL 2GB FOR N100 ✔ Load a N100 recharge on your new Airtel ported line via your Online banking app. PLS Do not buy a recharge card 💳 else it won't work. TECNO UNVEILING OF NEW CAMON CM: SEE FULL SPEC, FEATURES AND PRIZE IN NIGERIA

TECNO, a premier mobile phone brand under TRANSSION HOLDINGS, has released its first frameless full-screen display smartphone – TECNO CAMON CM. The device is the latest in the CAMON Series family and reemphasises the brand’s knack for designing high-end smartphones with sophisticated cameras. While chronicling the brand’s growth and sheer market dominance, Eric Liu, Brand Manager of TECNO Mobile, Nigeria highlighted the company’s efforts to make revolutionary smartphones that will usher smartphone enthusiasts into an era of endless possibilities on the mobile devices and exceptional photography experiences. In his words, “the smartphone has been reinvented and OEMs globally are always on the lookout for the next big thing to talk about. At TECNO, we take pride in our ability to understand and meet our consumers’ needs, and eventually surpass their expectations.”
With the CAMON CM, TECNO has delivered a very stylish full-screen display smartphone. The fullview display device produces an immersive experience when consuming videos, reading books, capturing images or even surfing the Internet. The frameless device simplifies multi-tasking and offers users an opportunity to split their screen (18:9 screen support single window 1:1 split-screen operating with only one step), so that they can handle more than one task while still being able to see more on either of the split windows. Though it is a common belief that full-view display screens are more susceptible to damage. Liverpool Sell Philippe Coutinho To Barcelona For 160 million Euro

Philippe Coutinho has described his move from Liverpool to Barcelona as "a dream come true" after appearing at the Camp Nou for the first time on Sunday ahead of his official unveiling. "Barca fans, I'm here now. It's a dream come true! I hope to see you tomorrow," said Coutinho, who will be presented to supporters on Monday, in a short video clip released by Barcelona. The 25-year-old posed for photographers at the Camp Nou wearing a tracksuit top in the colours of the club a day after Barcelona confirmed a 160 million-euro ($192 million) deal to buy him. It is the third-biggest transfer in football history and a club record deal for Barcelona. He is due to officially sign his contract at 12:30 local time (1130 GMT), with an appearance on the Camp Nou pitch set and a press conference also set for Monday afternoon. "Now I want to play, win trophies and make the supporters happy. Those are my objectives," Coutinho told Barca TV. The Brazilian has agreed a deal through to 2023 at the Camp Nou and is looking forward to playing alongside Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta, players he described as "idols". Coutinho has already played alongside Suarez for 18 months at Liverpool before the Uruguayan made the same move in 2014. "Everybody knows about his quality. He has been playing at the highest level for years now and that is important," Suarez told Barca TV about the new arrival. "Now we need to make sure he feels at home because we know that changing club is always difficult, but I think he is the type of player who will fit well into the team." 'Versatile' Barcelona fans see Coutinho as the long-term successor to Iniesta, and coach Ernesto Valverde is aiming to make the most of the Brazilian's ability to play in a range of positions. "I think he can bring a lot to the team. He scores and sets up goals, and going forward he can help us a lot as he can play both inside and out wide," remarked Valverde after Barcelona's comfortable 3-0 La Liga win over Levante on Sunday. "He is versatile and we can take advantage of his versatility." The deal had been in the pipeline for months, but having previously tried to avoid talking about the Brazilian, Valverde can now look forward to welcoming him into his squad for a busy second half of the season. "It is a signing that has been talked about for a long time, although it was not something I was keen to discuss," said Valverde, whose team are still unbeaten in La Liga and sit nine points clear of Atletico Madrid at the top of the table. Capable of playing on the wing and in a more withdrawn midfield role, Coutinho's arrival provides a wealth of new options to Valverde, although he will not be able to play in the Champions League knockout phase having already featured in the competition for Liverpool. "We will wait until I have seen him train for a day at least until we talk about that," added Valverde when pressed on where the ex-Inter Milan man would fit into his team. "It is true that I have seen videos of him playing in different positions, for Liverpool and for his country. But let's wait and see. "I hope he adapts quickly, although good players adapt quickly to any circumstances."

Report And Event from Delta State LG Election

Asaba  – Delta State Local Government Election was yesterday enmeshed in crisis following the death of an ad hoc staff of Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) and violence unleashed on voters by thugs alleged to be members of the opposition party. Also, the election witnessed a delay in the distribution of election materials and subsequent disappearance in some areas. The situation led to hot exchanges of words between the leaders of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) over the alleged malpractices perpetrated during the election Although, the election witnessed massive turnout in Okpanam, Akumazi, Igbodo and Kwale axis of Delta North Senatorial District; but at Ozoigwe Primary School, Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area, and Akwukwu-Igbo, Oshimili North LGA, prospective voters waited for hours for materials to arrive, while in Ibusa, Oshimilli North LGA, voters were locked out as at 10:30 am. The situation was the same at Obiaruku, Ukuwani LGA as materials were yet to be distributed to polling units as at 11 am. The election, took a worrisome dimension as an ad hoc staff of the State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC was reportedly killed at Onitsha-Ugbo, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state. Sunday INDEPENDENT gathered that the deceased in his 30s was reportedly killed by suspected political thugs. Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Mr. Andrew Aniamaka said, “The yet unidentified man was not killed but slumped and died.” He added that autopsy would be carried out to ascertain the cause of death. Pandemonium broke out in Ughelli North where some armed men yesterday morning invaded DSIEC office and set it ablaze after serious sporadic shooting to scare away people. The youths invaded the office in protest of the non-inclusion of result sheets in the voting materials. The police had earlier shot into the air to disperse the crowd. Governor Okowa who spoke yesterday at Ward 3, Owa-Alero, Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State shortly after casting his votes at Polling Unit 3, asserted, “I am satisfied with the process.” Trouble started when the party members most of whom were from the opposition, insisted that they must verify the authenticity of all the voting materials before they were taken away to the respective units. A youth leader from Agbarha-Otor community, Enis Ogegere who was also at the scene of the incident, said: “Upon inspection of the materials, we noticed that there were only ballot papers and thumb printing materials excluding result sheets, this was what led to the fracas.” On the situation report generally across the state, Governor Okowa disclosed that at Ndokwa East LGA, soldiers stopped electoral officers from moving materials, a situation which he said, was addressed, adding that at Ughelli North, suspected members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were said to have razed DSIEC office. “It is unfortunate that some persons were not ready for the elections and they resorted to violence, I personally led the campaign of the PDP round the 25 local government areas of the state, even to areas I did not visit when I was campaigning for the governorship position and after that, the campaign from Ward to Ward, house to house continued while other political parties were not involved in any campaign. I can assure you that generally, from information available to me, the state is calm and voting is in progress.” He stated that DSIEC, has given assurance that the election will be credible, free and fair and so far, you can see that people have come out to cast their votes. The electoral process adopted by DSIEC, which entails simultaneous accreditation and voting process reduced the crowding of polling boots,” the governor said. A leader of APC, Chief Hycinth Enuha, accused DSIEC of non-provision of candidates’ booklets, maintaining, “At Nsukwa, the Returning Officer and other Polling Agents absconded.” At about 11.45 am, voters were seen exercise their rights at Ward 9, Akumazi. Some of the voters said materials arrived early and there was no crisis as the election was peaceful while two suspected members of the opposition were arrested with guns at Igbodo, Ika North-East LGA of the state. The lawmaker, representing Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Victor Nwokolo, who voted at Ward 8 – Unit 8 said the two thugs that were arrested at Ilabor Primary School in Igbodo, by Anti-Cult Squad of the council area, attempted to hijack the process with guns. At Ward 7, Emevor, Isoko North LGA, Dr Nelson Ejakpovi said at about 12 pm that, “I just voted, the people came out enmasse to vote, voting is in progress and it is very peaceful.” The State Commissioner for Lands in the state, Chief Chika Ossai, however, disclosed that due to the terrain, which requires material passing through different LGAs from Aboh to Iselegu, voting materials arrived at about 11pm, stating that he cast his votes at about 12.30 pm at DSIEC Ward 3, Unit 5, Iselegu. He stated that the area was peaceful and voting was in progress as at the time of filing this report. The Commissioner for Information, Hon. Patrick Ukah who voted at Ward 12, Unit 3, Okpanam said, voting materials were delayed as DSIEC officials waited for security agencies to deploy officers to escort voting them to different areas. PDP Chairmanship candidate for Warri South LGA, Hon. Michael Tidi voted at 10.15 am at Ward 17, Unit 14, Idimi-Jakpa quarters, Okere and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election by the DSIEC. But Dr Cairo Ojuigboh, an APC chieftain has described the election as a fraud perpetrated by the state government. He said the State Assembly should Meanwhile, DSIEC has announced the returned unopposed of 57 councilors of the PDP. Chairman of DSIEC, Chief Mike Ogbodu, in a press statement, said the 57 PDP councilors are being returned unopposed as no other candidates are in contention with them. Ogbodu listed Ward 4 in Isoko South; Wards 5, 9, 10, 16, 18 in Uvwie; Wards 1, 3, 6, 11, 18 in Warri North and Wards 2, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 in Warri South as among those whose councilors are returned unopposed. Isoko Youth Apex body, Isoko National Youth Assembly (INYA) has cautioned the troublemakers to maintain the sanity of a true democratic process. President, INYA, Comrade Umuakpo Ovie and the Director of Media and Strategy, Comrade Eniwake Orogun expressed the body’s commitment to the sustainability of peace in Isoko Nation and Delta State at large. INYA called on all political actors to refrain from thuggery, ballot snatching and other vices that are inimical to credible polls. “We must insist on a free and fair process devoid of violence. Let us resist being used as pawns for selfish purposes by individuals or groups who have the least concern for us as a people. They do not mean well for us and if we are pushed, we must insist on their children or wards taking the lead. “We call on the political class whose modus vivendi is to precipitate violence and extract the gains therefore, to desist from inducing our youths for electioneering criminality and violence as we shall not fail to report any form of it to relevant authorities for arrest and possible prosecution.” Meanwhile, numerous holidaymakers were stranded in Onitsha, Anambra State yesterday, as the River Niger Bridge was closed to all road users due to local government elections in Delta State. According to the travellers, police officers, members of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and authorities from the state government, announced to them that gate to the bridge would remain locked till 3pm yesterday because of the election in the state, reports, The Cable. The travellers, going back to their various bases, mostly in the Southwest, said they were stuck in the resulting gridlock for over four hours with no respite in sight. “We have been here since 6 am,” one of the stranded commuters who identified himself as Emeka said. But Bisi Kazeem, spokesman of the FRSC, justified the closure. “It is because of the local government elections in 25 local governments that the bridge was shut down,” he said. “But now (1 pm), I can authoritatively tell you that it is opened because of the cars on the bridge.” Kazeem said there was a press release by the FRSC to announce the decision to shut the bridge. The press release, he said, was sent on Friday, January 5, but did not gain traction in the media with rarely any broadcast, print or online media bearing the news.
